U.S. Social Security Administration tracks data center assets and conducts inventories within hours
The U.S. Social Security Administration (SSA) is an agency of the U.S. federal government that administers a social insurance program consisting of retirement, disability and survivor’s benefits. The SSA launched an IT asset management initiative at its national data centers with the goal of automating inventory and audit processes for IT assets. The SSA operates its national data centers 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Each site spans 100,000 square feet and houses 15,000 assets managing 180 million secure transactions daily.
The SSA sought to reduce inventory cycle times, improve inventory accuracy and enhance security. In addition, the agency sought a better method of ensuring that nothing ended up missing. By deploying Visi-Trac, the SSA was able to conduct inventories of over 13,000 assets within hours, reduce the labor required for inventory by ninety percent, and improve accountability for each item.
After implementing Visi-Trac, “The agency now conducts weekly inventory counts
