Schlumberger rolls out global asset traceability, improves real-time asset visibility and utilization
Schlumberger is the world’s leading provider of technology for reservoir characterization, drilling, production and processing to the oil and gas industry. Schlumberger wanted to improve its asset utilization and have greater flexibility in moving equipment to accommodate changing activity levels while decreasing capital expenditures. In order to achieve this, Schlumberger needed real-time operational intelligence on its high-value physical assets dispersed around the world in over 45 countries, in remote regions with little or no communications infrastructure.
RFID Global teamed with IBM to develop a global asset traceability system. RFID Global managed sourcing, global device certification, export/import regulatory compliance, logistics, and project management to deploy over 15,000 GPS tracking devices around the globe. RFID Global leveraged its worldwide network of subsidiaries and business partners to fulfill this project’s requirements. RFID Global provides 24x7 monitoring and daily analytics on asset movements and GPS device performance using its Visi-Trac customer support platform. Schlumberger has benefitted from accurate, real-time location data through increased asset utilization, operational efficiencies and better asset security.
Asset utilization plays a key role in the technology management lifecycle. By centralizing and investing in asset tracking systems that provide real-time data throughout the globe, we are able to increase asset operating time and use our assets more efficiently.
